The Kitchen Floor Work Day

This work day could make a pretty funny Hanson story to tell in person...it was a LONG day with a lot of unexpected frustration. The old tiles were bad enough that we did not think the new tiles should go on top of so we had to scrape them all off....some common expressions of frustrations from the 4 hard workers included "oops," "uh-oh," "um, come over here quick!", "this could very well be what a speck of hell feels like!", "I can't feel my fingers" "Does this sticky stuff come off!", "are we done yet?", "my fingers are bleeding", "Jonathan is stuck again", "I give up!"... and so on...

Here is a pick of the floor before...faded in some place and coming up in some areas...

Progress! You can see the old floor we covered up a couple years ago - it was awful...

The finished product and all for a little under $200...

HGTV would be proud I think.

It does look great! Greg is cracking up about the "speck of hell" comment knowing that must have been John!!!! He is absolutely cracking up right now! What an awesome story --- only the Hanson's are deserving enough for a story like that! WE LOVE YOU GUYS!!!!!!!!

Like your tile choice and you are so brave to have the kids help. Our projects have a lot of commentary too. Do any of them go smoothly? Follow up on our ceramic tile bathroom project, one of them already got broken as the quarter round was put back into place around the edges-that hurt.

Thanks Shelly - we don't usually plan on them helping at the start...after a few hours of playing alone and listening to John and I "work together" they want to join in! Ashlyn and Joshua are actually great workers most of the time. The other 2 are the challenge because they don't like to play without the other 2 most of the time. They sure are proud to say they "all" helped. We are putting our quarter round back on today in a couple places so I am a little nervous. I liked how yours came out alot and would definately go that route in a house we are going to stay in, this was the cheap and quick way to have it look nice...not sure how it will look in 3 years though :)
