Bedtime Hymns

John has always done a traditional bedtime routine with our babies when they are about 9 months to 18 months. We used to have a glider rocker in their nursery (for Ashlyn and Joshua) and he would rock them and sing old hymns to them at bedtime. This was such a great thing we started when our babies were all weaning so they no longer needed me to help fall asleep. So Jonathan continues in our tradition (he is held like Caleb was) starting about a month ago. He loves it and of course can tell the difference when his mommy has to sing to him instead of daddy sometimes when he is not here. He is stuck with children bible songs those days! So anyway, it was cute the other day when I saw him in his car seat getting sleeping and he started to hum. It was clear as day that he was humming a song to fall asleep. Now we can't wait to start hearing him sing Amazing Grace and Come Thou Fount!

What a sweet little guy! Some of my best memories growing up are singing songs with my family. They weren't hymns, per se, but songs nonetheless. I try to sing with my kids, as well, in hopes we will create these types of memories ourselves. I think that having daddy sing to them (or mommy) is a memory they will always treasure. And if the words speak of Jesus, even better! What a great teaching tool.

Merry Christmas from our crew to yours! We are thankful for 2024 and all that it brought to our family. God has been gracious and merciful to us as we hope to glorify Him with our lives and figure out our next season of life. We had more ups than downs this year and are excited to see what unfolds in 2025. John and Deanna celebrated 26 years of marriage this year and were able to celebrate with an anniversary trip through four National Parks in CA and NV. It was an amazing trip and of course urges us to travel more this coming year while we are healthy enough to hike and have more time on our hands in this short season. The peer pressure of the internet

So I have been invited about 5 times to join Facebook this past year and it seems lately most of my adult friends are joining. I have been afraid to join, not because of the crazy psychos out there, but because I know the time I would lose once I joined. I keep going back and forth and am driving John crazy using his account all the time to email friends I haven't talked to for awhile. He keeps telling me to get my own account. He joined last year because his youth Sunday School Class was all on there and it was better for them to discuss and email through Facebook . He is just now using it to re-connect with other people or talk back and forth with KC friends here (he no longer teaches the youth at church). When my friend Sara joined she said her inbox was full of friend requests and how crazy it was to get requests from people she never really talked to back in high school. Is it rude to just decline those people or is the "cool" thing to just have a bunch of friend...
