2 X-rays in a 2 days
We had an eventful Sunday evening at the Hanson household. First, Caleb told us that he usually spits out all the money, but this time he didn't. We had no idea what he was talking about. Turns out that he was chewing on some coins and he thought one went down his throat. Only my Caleb would fine this entertaining on a Sunday afternoon. He kept complaining that his mouth hurt. John looked down his throat and didn't see a coin so we explained to him that it probably already went to his tummy and that it would work its way out in the bathroom. Then, he started saying his tummy hurt really bad. Off and on he would scream and cry and roll around on the floor. We couldn't tell if he was just saying that because I told him it would go there and it scared him, or if it really did hurt. So we decided to go ahead and take him into the Urgent Care to get an X-ray.
On the way down the stairs, John missed the bottom stair and fell sideways on his left foot. He immediately started moaning and crying out along with Caleb. After some help getting him up, he still decided to still take Caleb alone while the rest of us stayed home. I am not sure if the Urgent Care people thought he was there for his foot or for Caleb when they arrived! After a small wait time, they took Caleb back for his X-ray. But before they could take it, he threw up all over. I don't think they could tell if the coin was in the mess or not. They went ahead and took the X-ray and ended up confirming the coin was not in his throat or belly...Caleb was a much happier boy.
By Monday, John could barely walk. He couldn't do stairs, was limping quite a bit and was taking way too much ibuprofen than he should. He scheduled an appointment for an X-ray for Tues morning (today)...well sure enough, he has a small fracture. They put him in a big black boot that he has to wear for 4 weeks. After some research on the internet, he does not think it will ever completely heal...and probably no hiking in CO in June like we hoped....poor John. But at least he doesn't need crutches (or have to cut the grass for awhile). We'll keep you posted.
