Yesterday was Jonathan's birthday and Joshua and I were the first 2 up. So we wrapped his birthday presents together and put them out on the fireplace so they would be there when he woke up. Right after we put them out, Joshua told me that he remembered on Mother's Day that Jonathan said he would like breakfast in bed on his birthday too. So Joshua decided to make him cinnamon toast.  He took it into his room and Jonathan stumbled out of the room with a smile and a plate of toast.  I told him Happy Birthday really loud and he said, "Is today my real birthday?"  (I think he was confused because we celebrated his birthday at preschool in April and then people kept telling him Happy Birthday all week when we would see him.)  I said "yes, it really is." And he immediately, ran over to Joshua and gave him a huge hug and kiss for the breakfast. Hard to believe this guy is 5 today! And he is going to Kindergarten next year! Happy Birthday Buddy! We love you very much :) You're my favorite birthday present ever...

On Saturday, we enjoyed a spa day for all of our team leaders at the Maids. We have 16 teams and each team has a team leader. They have a lot of responsibilities each day. We pampered them with a gift basket, robe, lunch, manicures, pedicures, and massages. It was Mother's Day weekend as well. I think they were all able to relax and enjoy themselves. Yesterday was John's official last day of teaching his students at FCA.  He has taught there for 5 years. In those 5 years, he has taught Worldview 3, Worldview 2, Finance and Accounting, Geography, and Church History.  He really has enjoyed it.  Not only has he been able to teach the Word of God to so many young minds, but he has also had the opportunity to disciple a few of them them in those 5 years. I am a very proud wife and glad he could use his gifts as a ministry to our children's school.  He plans on being at the Maids 5 days a week going forward again, which may be hard at first since he was at school or planning his lessons plans most of MWF.  He is very excited to be able to sub next year when they need him to and to not have to request a sub for trips or Maid related dates that he has had to miss in the past.  I am secretly excited to have him more available at home during certain parts of the school year and also excited to share an office tog...

Our new bathroom downstairs is finally underway....this will be Ashlyn's private bathroom hooked on to her new bedroom. We are starting completely from scratch - no plumbing for a bathroom is there at all. We are doing it in 3 phases. This phase will include all of the plumbing for a toilet, sink, and shower. We should be able to use the toilet and sink by next week. Phase 2 includes framing the room, installing a door from Ashlyn's room, all the electrical, and the shower hookup. Phase 3 will be drywalling, flooring and painting. John and I plan to do most of Phase 3 and we are hiring the Anchor House at our church for the other 2 phases. After studying about the Lewis & Clark expedition, the FCA 5th grade class was able to take a field trip to one of their discoveries in MO - Fort Osage. This was the first field trip I had gone on with Ashlyn in a really long time. It was pretty fun and a four hour field trip. Here are a couple pictures from the day...

As the school year draws year, I find myself getting more excited for it's end than past years.  I am not sure why though.  FCA continues to get harder as we enroll more of our children and I think the weather this past year has played a role too.  We are not a family stuck on too much structure or schedules and are all in need of about a month of nothing.  No deadlines, nothing due, no reason to be late to something, etc, etc. Our summer plans right now include a road trip to the Grand Canyon, a family canoe trip in July, summer volleyball camp for Ashlyn and alot of swimming at our neighborhood pool.  Until we can enjoy all of that, we have 4 more field trips, 4 more class parties, 3 big school projects due, preschool field day, and too many finals to count for fifth grade....let the countdown begin!
