An unexpected dinner guest

We were little surprised Friday night while we were enjoying our taco dinner...a frog on our dining room door (on the outside of the door). The kids were excited to watch it eat a few bugs on the screen door when we finished our meal. We thought about catching it for show-n-tell on Monday, but knew it wouldn't live that long so we watched him a while and let him hop away. This is our second frog visit this month, another one jumped into our pool and drowned about 3 weeks ago. Had to share this one since he was smaller and kinda cute!

A.A.A.D.D. -- Age Activated Attention Deficit Disorder This is how it manifests: I decide to water my garden. As I turn on the hose in the driveway, I look over at my car and decide it needs washing. As I start toward the garage, I notice mail on the porch table that I brought up from the mail box earlier. I decide to go through the mail before I wash the car. I lay my car keys on the table, put the junk mail in the garbage can under the table, and notice that the can is full. So, I decide to put the bills back on the table and take out the garbage first. But then I think, since I'm going to be near the mailbox when I take out the garbage anyway, I may as well pay the bills first. I take my check book off the table, and see that there is only 1 check left. My extra checks are in my desk in the study, so I go inside the house to my desk where I find the can of Coke I'd been drinking. I'm going to look for my checks, but first I need to push the Coke so that I don't accid...

So now that Ashlyn is a great reader it is always fun to hear her read to the boys and I. Well, today she mispronounced something that made me laugh so I thought I would share. We have been waiting for the UPS man to come ever since we ordered our books online and today he finally came. As he pulled up, Ashlyn yelled "the ups (like the direction up) man is here!" We haven't quite gone over abbreviations yet! She said it like 3 other times talking about it to the library. It made me chuckle each time she said it.

So we did a little more research about moles, grubs, and gophers and I think what we really have is a pocket gopher! The dirt in the piles is very sandy and there are only about 3 piles (no obvious tunnel). These are two things that point more towards a gopher. We could try to flush the hole with gasoline or water and see what happens. We'll keep you posted on the progress of that this weekend. Thanks so much for all the advice with the moles...if it turns out to be that instead, we will start with the grub stuff. Thanks so much!

One of John's favorite hobbies is Cigar smoking. He enjoys sitting on the deck in the late evening on a cool summer night reading and smoking a great smelling cigar (not good smelling to the rest of us though). Well, last night we were at a friends house and it was the perfect night. Unfortunately, he forget to bring his usual cigar friends that we are all used to seeing at home. So John and his friend Nate enjoyed one of Nate's favorite things...an old fashioned pipe. Lisa and I were inside taking some pictures of the babies and Ashlyn came in. She said "Dad is still smoking his tuba and won't play with me right now!" Lisa and I couldn't stop laughing. A pipe really does resemble a small tuba, especially to a 6 year old!
A Frog Story

A frog goes into a bank and approaches the teller. He can see from her nameplate that her name is Patricia Whack. "Miss Whack, I'd like to get a $30,000 loan to take a holiday." Patty looks at the frog in disbelief and asks his name. The frog says his name is Kermit Jagger, his dad is Mick Jagger, and that it's okay, he knows the bank manager. Patty explains that he will need to secure the loan with some collateral. The frog says, "Sure. I have this," and produces a tiny porcelain elephant, about an inch tall, bright pink and perfectly formed. Very confused, Patty explains that she'll have to consult with the bank manager and disappears into a back office. She finds the manager and says, "There's a frog called Kermit Jagger out there who claims to know you and wants to borrow $30,000, and he wants to use this as collateral." She holds up the tiny pink elephant. "I mean, what in the world is this?" The bank manager looks back a...
